“Quatermass” 1970
This album is noteworthy for containing the track that caused the break-up of Deep Purple Mk.3 and the formation of Ritchie Blackmore’s Rainbow (see here for details): ‘Black Sheep Of The Family’. Also, two members of Quatermass would go on to form later ‘Purple’ connections; Underwood and Gustafson (former band mates of Ian Gillan in Episode Six) would join ‘Gillan’ the band; John Gustafson formed ‘Hard Stuff’ which released two albums on the Purple Records label and would also join early incarnations of ‘The Ian Gillan Band’, Underwood joining ‘Gillan’ in 1979.
