WWA
Founded by then Black Sabbath manager, Patrick Meehan, WWA Records was the World Wide Artists management team breaking into the record label business.
As well as Black Sabbath, who released arguably their best work on the label with ‘Sabbath Bloody Sabbath’, WWA also released albums from The Groundhogs, Snafu, Gentle Giant and Jackie Lynton. Meehan also took the opportunity to reissue Black Sabbath’s first four albums.
In 1973, Sabbath were one of the biggest bands on the planet, selling copious quantities of albums and concert tickets at some of the world’s biggest venues…so naturally, they assumed there were very wealthy, if not millionaires.
Patrick Meehan, however, was involved in various other business activities, funded in part by Sabbath’s money. When these investments collapsed, Sabbath lost nearly everything. The other artists on the label also found their financial situations to be less than ideal.
The label was forced to close just over a year after being formed when the Black Sabbath members discovered the precarious nature of their business arrangements, sacked their manager and plunged themselves into a chaotic turmoil of legal wrangles, injunctions and financial disruption for months, if not years.
