Black Widow’s last LP on CBS orange label (they were dropped after this LP flopped) and a ‘posthumous’ release on Gull of a ‘best of’ Judas Priest 2LP set, featuring remixed tracks from their ‘Rocka Rolla’ and ‘Sad Wings Of Destiny’ original Gull albums. Bit of a cash in by Gull, following the global success of ‘British Steel’…
There are two versions of Judas Priest’s seminal 1976 LP on the Gull label (GULP 1015). I have found an alternative version from the Decca pressed version, one pressed by Pye Records. Both Decca and Pye manufactured and distributed for Gull but I am now wondering whether Decca was the original pressing and Pye a later reissue…? And therefore, does that follow for ALL releases on Gull…are there two versions of each original release? Watch this space for developing news!

Oh, and by the way…the Pye pressed version glows red when held up to the light (just like all mid-70s pressed Pye records).

GULP1019 is missing from every online discography I could find for Gull Records…and it’s probably not hard to see why! I’ve tracked down a copy of “Charlie Smithers Is A Very Funny Man”. Two albums from IF have been added to the Gull Records section, GULP 1004 and GULP 1007, the band had previously released albums on Island and United Artists labels.
Some Gull releases were manufactured and distributed by Pye Records (others by Decca). Pye introduced a special type of vinyl in the mid/late 1970’s that looked like normal black vinyl but was actually translucent red when held very close to a bright light. Here’s an example of GULP 1031 from 1979:
