“Spring” 1971
Sleeve notes:
Impressive ‘double’ gatefold that opens out to reveal an injured/dead soldier dressed in red tunic lying beside a stream, flowing red from spilled blood whilst the band member rest under a tree watching the scene from across the river. A dramatic scene photographed and designed by Marcus Keef. Presumably inspired by track 4 side 1: “Shipwrecked Soldier”…
Unusually for Keef, he has avoided his trademark ‘false colour photography’ style (Black Sabbath, Affinity, Indian Summer, Tonton Macoute etc) and also departed from another trademark style for the inner gatefold which normally features a mono group photograph with pink lettering (Cressida’s Asylum, Black Sabbath’s Paranoid, Hannibal, Beggars Opera Act One, Jimmy Campbell’s Half Baked etc).
Printed by Howards Printers Ltd.
Label notes:
Usual ‘Aphrodite’ design A side with text on B side.
